- TG> Also, I've seen some hearing people be pretty stupid

- TG> Anyway, I ask the salesman about "so-in-so's Bible for the Deaf" and
- TG> he said, "we don't carry books in braille." I just said fine and

-
- I'm curious....what Bible for the Deaf were you looking for? A
- text version? Baker Book House has put out a special English
- version called The Holy Bible: The English Version for the Deaf.
- They also put out the very same version entitled: The Holy
- Bible: Easy-to-Read Version. The English is simple and basic but
- it follows English structure, not ASL.
-
- A sample quote: "The Lord is my shepherd. I will always have
- everything I need. He lets me lie down in green pastures. He
- leads me by calm pools of water."
-
- If that is not what you were referring to, then please inform me
- what it is.
-
- As for the bookseller referring to books in braille for deaf
- people---my gosh! That takes the cake! Personally speaking, I
- don't ever recall running across that misconception in my life.
- The only misconceptions I ran into regarding deafness were:
- 1. being deaf meant not hearing anything at all, which is
- not necessarily true
- 2. being deaf meant I couldn't talk and knew only sign
- language.
-
- TG> And the girl
- TG> that played sarah with my brother in Children of a Lesser God, said
- TG> that she and her friends went to a restaurant (kinda like
- TG> CHili's) and were signing as they were walking in. The
- TG> waiter saw this and happily brought them braille menus. She
- TG> signed thank you and promptly ran her ear over the menu. The
- TG> waiter then realize his mistake! So as long as the hearing
- TG> actor does not make mistakes like that.... I guess it's okay!
-
- Wished I could have seen that!!!!!
