  21. If you saw 60 Minutes last Sunday evening, you are probably aware
  22. of what Deaf Culture stands for - if not, then perhaps it can best
  23. be explained as a culture that includes only those born deaf who
  24. only sign and only mingle among others like them.

  26. While I was born deaf, I've never been a part of the Deaf Culture
  27. as I was raised in the hearing world and I've never used signing
  28. as my mode of communication.

  30. I do not consider deafness a culture like others do.  I personally
  31. feel it is too narrow-minded and confining for me.  They have
  32. never accepted me because I'm oral.  Also, even though I am deaf,
  33. I don't feel I have to belong to a specific group as I've never
  34. believed in such grouping.  We are all human beings first...
