- RM> I have a friend---about 20 or so--who was born deaf w/a cleft palate.
- RM> Through therapy over the years he's gotten 25% of his hearing
- RM> in one ear back...but that's as much as he'll ever get. He wants to go
- RM> to college to learn to be a writer but his mother is very poor....the
- RM> feds (of course) have no money...they have been told to try for a "Pell
- RM> grant"....Does anyone else have any suggestions of where he might go to
- RM> try for a grant or scholarship or funds? I'm not sure he could pay off
- RM> a student loan for a LONG time and there isn't any cash...he does work
- RM> and would continue to work. Thanks for any ideas.

- Hi Rosemary - your friend should be able to find out more information
- on this via his local Department of Human Services, Vocational
- Rehabilitation. He would get all of the forms and information on how
- to apply for a Pell Grant from the VR Counselor. You don't have to
- repay Pell Grants but you do have to maintain a good grade point while
- in school.
