  20. NO BLOCKADE OF YUGOSLAVIA
  21.  
  22. The UN Security Council, which since the Gulf war has functioned
  23. primarily as a diplomatic cover for U.S. military intervention,
  24. has voted sanctions and a blockade against Yugoslavia. NATO, the
  25. imperialist military alliance constructed to contain and overturn
  26. socialist revolutions in Europe, is moving to implement the
  27. blockade. Warships from the U.S., Britain, Italy, France and
  28. Greece are poised in the Adriatic Sea to board and search vessels
  29. bound for Yugoslav ports.

  31. The Pentagon is assembling an armada in the area, including the
  32. guided-missile frigate Halyburton, the cruiser Wainwright, the
  33. amphibious assault ship Guam with 2,200 Marines aboard, and the
  34. aircraft carrier Kennedy accompanied by a battle group of six
  35. other ships. The Romanian Embassy says U.S. and German
  36. officers(!) are now monitoring traffic along the Danube River.

  38. Oil, the lifeline of any country today, tops the list of
  39. prohibited items, along with coal, iron, steel, rubber,
  40. chemicals, tires, aircraft and any type of motor.

  42. NATO and the forces of the Western European Union, which include
  43. France, are scrambling to outgun one another and be supreme in
  44. the Balkans, after years of promoting the breakup of the Yugoslav
  45. socialist federation. The pirates of imperialism are descending
  46. on the area, trying to pick off pieces of what was a unified
  47. workers' state. Their main objective now is to overthrow the
  48. government in Belgrade, the only authority not completely in the
  49. pocket of one of the imperialist powers, and the only part of
  50. Yugoslavia that still has substantial publicly-owned industry.

  52. Forget the talk about protecting Muslim people (after the
  53. slaughter of the Gulf war!), protecting small nations (after the
  54. invasions of Grenada and Panama!), protecting human rights (after
  55. allowing thousands to die in Somalia!). These robbers have no
  56. noble motives, and their intervention will only cost lives, not
  57. save them.

  59. This blockade is nothing but an act of war by imperialist
  60. super-powers against a small country, and should be opposed by
  61. all who believe in the right of nations to self-determination.
