  22. JOURNALIST KILLED IN MEXICO

  24. Ignacio Mendoza, 52 years old, former director of the newspaper La
  25. voz del Caribe, was shot to death on Friday night, November 13 in
  26. Mexico City.  One day before his death Mendoza had appeared before
  27. the governmental National Commission on Human Rights (CNDH) to say
  28. that he felt desperate in the face of agressive actions by the
  29. governor of the state of Quintana Roo, Mendoza's home state.
  30. Mendoza accused the governor, Miguel Borge, of having ordered
  31. Mendoza's three children to be shot.

  33. The journalist was killed by gunshots through the door of his home
  34. in the Iztapalapa neighborhood of Mexico City, where he lived in
  35. self-exile from his home state for fear of the governor's threats.
  36. On the night of the killing Mendoza returned to his home after a
  37. demonstration by journalists commemorating the 50th anniversary of
  38. the Foreign Correspondents Association of Mexico, which was
  39. attended by Mexican president Carlos Salinas.  (AFP 11/16)
