MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- November 16, 1992 -- Sun Microsystems Computer
Corporation (SMCC) today announced that it has established its 20th
worldwide subsidiary, located in Hungary. The new office will allow the
company to provide local sales, service and marketing support directly
to SMCC's distributors, value-added resellers and customers throughout
Middle Europe, which includes Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Poland and the
Baltic states.  With this addition, SMCC now has a total of 11
subsidiaries in Europe.

With a compounded annual growth rate expected to exceed 80 percent over
the next three years, Middle Europe is one of SMCC's fastest-growing
geographies. The formation of Sun Microsystems Middle Europe Regional
Office underscores the rapid growth in demand for systems based on the
UNIX(R) operating system in the region. For example, more than 50
percent of 1991 multiuser shipments in Poland were systems based on the
UNIX operating system, according to International Data Corporation
(IDC).

"As industries in these emerging markets begin to focus on developing
their information technology infrastructures, our leadership in
providing optimum functionality, flexibility and price/performance to
the enterprise represents a real growth opportunity," said Tim Dwyer,
SMCC's vice president of intercontinental operations.

Sun(TM) products have been sold throughout Middle Europe since 1990,
with sales primarily through partners.  These partners, resellers and
distributors will continue to focus on penetrating the
banking/financial services, manufacturing, telecommunications,
government and education markets.

More than 50 percent of SMCC's revenues come from non-U.S.  markets.
The new Hungarian subsidiary is part of the company's ongoing efforts
to expand worldwide. SMCC also has subsidiaries in Australia, Belgium,
Brazil, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan,
Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland,
Taiwan and the United Kingdom.

American channels through new agreements with leading personal computer
(PC) networking distributors.  SunSelect products are now available in
North America through Tech Data, GBC Technologies, Transparent
Technologies, Intelligent Electronics (IE), Arrow Electronics, Inc.,
and Merisel Canada in addition to SunSelect's existing channels, which
include ComputerLand, Access Graphics, SunExpress and Sun Microsystems
Computer Corporation (SMCC).

Today's announcement marks SunSelect's breakthrough into the mainstream
PC marketplace and demonstrates the growing demand for broader
PC-to-enterprise networking solutions. Under the new agreements,
hundreds of PC-LAN and network integrators will carry SunSelect
products for the first time. The SunSelect product line includes PC-NFS
products for networking PCs into open, client- server environments;
SunPC software and hardware acceleration products for running MS-DOS
and Microsoft Windows applications on SPARC workstations; and NetWare
SunLink, which integrates NetWare LAN users with SPARC systems running
Solaris.

LAS VEGAS, Nev.- November 16, 1992 - This week at the COMDEX trade
show, SunSelect, a business unit of Sun Microsystems, Inc., is
previewing technology that allows personal computer users running
Microsoft(R) Windows(R) NT(tm) software to access UNIX(R) system
networks using PC-NFS(R) software.  SunSelect will join more than 200
developers who are demonstrating new products and technologies that
support the Microsoft Windows NT environment. SunSelect will be a key
vendor in the connectivity category.

The technology enables users to share network files and resources using
open systems networking. "This represents another milestone in
SunSelect's charter to integrate personal computing resources into
powerful heterogeneous network environments," said Phil Rosenzweig,
director of engineering for SunSelect. "SunSelect is committed to
meeting customers' needs by supporting emerging personal computing
operating systems."

First developed in 1986 to allow personal computers to run in UNIX
system multivendor networks, PC-NFS software is now the industry's most
widely used PC-to-enterprise networking solution, with a 70 percent
share of the personal computer TCP/IP and ONC/NFS networking market.
PC-NFS is built on Sun's Open Network Computing/Network File System
(ONC/NFS)(R), which allows users to take advantage of an open, scalable

vice president of marketing for North American and Australian field
operations.  Sarles has more than 20 years of experience in computer
industry sales and marketing.  She was previously vice president of
marketing for Xerox Engineering Systems, a division of Xerox
Corporation.

In her five years at Xerox, Sarles also held various executive
positions in the company's Document Systems and the Commercial
Integrated Systems groups.  In addition, her experience includes: three
years at ImagiTex as director of marketing; one year as director of OEM
business at Apollo Computer; nine years at Digital Equipment
Corporation where she held sales operations and marketing positions in
the Technical OEM Group; and four years in sales and sales management
Burroughs Corporation.

In her new position, Sarles will be responsible for all field marketing
activities for the United States, Canada, and Australia, focusing on
areas such as channel development programs, field tactical marketing
programs, major account development, sales support, product programs
and partnerships with SMCC's independent software vendors and systems
integrators.  Sarles will report to Bill Marr, vice president of North
American and Australian field operations for SMCC.
