- Does anyone have full syslogd capability working on DELL SVR4?
-
- I haven't been able to get it to receive from the IP network, although local
- requests to make it into the syslog stream. The interesting thing is that
- it doesn't appear to be listening on the port -- if I do a "netstat -a",
- ther is no listener on the UDP connection point.
-
- An example:
-
- Active Internet connections (including servers)
- Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address (state)
- tcp 0 0 ddsw1.mcs.com.telnet pc1.mcs.com.14906 ESTABLISHED

- Note that "syslog" isn't there, even though in /etc/services we find:
-
- syslog 514/udp
-
- Which indicates that it SHOULD be listening on port 514. Its definately
- running (and there is an /etc/syslog.conf file):
-
- root 84 1 0 Nov 14 ? 0:01 /usr/sbin/syslogd
-
- So what's the deal? Ideas? What am I missing? I need to be able to
- receive syslog messages from another device on the network and log them
- properly.
-
- I sent in a request to Dell's technical support service, but haven't heard
- anything back as of yet.
-
- Thanks in advance.
