- tvga8800 will not likely ever be supported in XFree86. The 8800 only
- supports a single 128k bank to the SVGA frame buffer. This is counter
- to the design of the frame-buffer code. The only Trident chipset supported
- by the color XFree86 server is the tvga8900C. The 8900B is NOT supported,
- nor is the 9000. Anyone who wants to is free to get the tech reference
- manuals and try to make it work. Good luck; it's not likely.
-
- The Trident chips are incredibly slow. A TVGA8900C runs barely half
- as fast as my ET4000 board, in the same machine. Get an ET4000-based
- board, or use the monochrome server.
