  46. tvga8800 will not likely ever be supported in XFree86.  The 8800 only
  47. supports a single 128k bank to the SVGA frame buffer.  This is counter
  48. to the design of the frame-buffer code.  The only Trident chipset supported
  49. by the color XFree86 server is the tvga8900C.  The 8900B is NOT supported,
  50. nor is the 9000.  Anyone who wants to is free to get the tech reference
  51. manuals and try to make it work.  Good luck; it's not likely.

  53. The Trident chips are incredibly slow.  A TVGA8900C runs barely half
  54. as fast as my ET4000 board, in the same machine.  Get an ET4000-based
  55. board, or use the monochrome server.
