- From what I heard when C= had a UNIX dept., GVP had had drivers
- somewhere deep in their lab but there were 2 problems:
-
- 1) The UNIX crew wanted source for ALL the drivers to be available
- to the end users and GVP was less that thrilled at the prospect
- of this.
-
- 2) Ali hated, still hates?, GVP mightily and to suggest that GVP
- drivers be allowed on AmigaUNIX would probably be a one way
- ticket to a pink slip, not that it mattered for the UNIX people
- in the end... B^(.
-
- The main problem is that the drivers have to be in the floppy boot
- kernel in order to access the drives in the first place. This means
- one of three things:
-
- 1) Loadable device drivers, definitely not an option in SVR4.0.
- 2) Drivers had to be shipped already in the OS.
- 3) GVP had to buy and AT&T source/distribution license and distribute
- their own boot floppys. A VERY pricey idea and a logistics nightmare
- for C= v.s. GVP kernel syncronization.
-
- So, to make a long story short: GVP drivers for AmigaUNIX will never
- happen. Either use a 2091 on a 2000 or forget about AmigaUNIX...
