- Our department recently inherited a 7207-011 tape drive (525MB External)
- from another department. Upon installation, I noticed that there is no
- such device type known to AIX (we're running 3.2.0 - after all the horror
- stories in this newsgroup I can't bring myself to try to upgrade), so I
- made it "ostape - other SCSI tape drive". This works fine, except that
- ostape seems to lack the "no retension" option. This is especially
- frustrating in that the drive is used mostly for making bootable backups
- out of "smit startup" and the first thing it does is another retension, so
- I have to sit through TWO retensions (of a longer 1020 ft. tape) before it
- starts doing anything.
-
- So, two questions:
-
- 1. The 7207-011 seems to have been available for some time. Why has the
- ODM never heard of it? (Please. Lord, don't make me start installing
- APARs!)
-
- 2. Short of an upgrade and breaking who knows what else, is there any way
- to turn off retensions everytime I insert a tape? What if I configure
- it as a 150MB drive?
-
- Thanks in advance to you net.aix.gurus.
