- STARTING UP A SOFTWARE COMPANY
-
- I am considering starting up a software company. The company would
- initially be based on a shrink-wrapped 50-100$ educational/game software
- for the PC and the Macintosh markets.
-
- To get the project going I need to get some investment in - hence, a
- business plan is called for. I am looking for any information
- investors can be interested in. For example:
-
- * MARKET DATA:
- - number of shrink-wrapped software companies.
- - what is their annual average sales?
- - how many have received venture capital financing?
- - how many of them went public?
- - some figures about the number of software packages sold in the PC
- and on the Mac markets for similar products (successes and
- failures).
-
- * PRODUCT:
- - availability of similar products.
- - development costs.
- - packaging costs.
- - other costs...
-
- * SALES:
- - who are the main whole-sellers/mail-order companies?
- - usual percentage maker gets from whole-seller and mail order
- companies.
- - what is the distribution channel percentage?
- - how difficult is to get such companies to sell your software?
-
- * And of course important CONTACTS.
-
- etc. etc. etc.
-
- Any references to books, magazines, articles or good ole personal
- experience on this subject would be GREATLY appreciated.
-
- Thanks,
-
