  15. I'd like to update you on the status of the FilterTop
  16. project, and invite new programmers to join the final
  17. leg of the 1.0 development effort!
  18.  
  19. TopSoft, Inc. is a non-profit company formed to produce
  20. free software, sample source code, libraries, etc. for
  21. the Mac community.  We started off as a loose group of
  22. programmers in 1991, and incorporated half a year ago,
  23. adding several new projects to the fold (to be announced
  24. in later postings).

  26. Our main product currently is FilterTop, an intelligent
  27. file "filtration" utility based loosely on UNIX pipelines,
  28. multi-threading, graphical "superfilter" creation and
  29. configuration, etc.  It's a bit hard to describe without
  30. seeing...for more info, if you are seriously interested 
  31. in helping with development, please contact me and we'll
  32. get you set up on our mailing lists, etc.

  34. We are also looking for developers interested in creating
  35. filters for FilterTop.  Examples (which we have) are:
  36. Binhex, Debinhex, Mac->UNIX Text, Macify, etc.  In short,
  37. a filter can do virtually anything, from various types
  38. of file conversion (graphics formats, sound formats,
  39. word processor formats) to filtration, such as UNIX's
  40. "sed," "wc," "grep," etc.  We are trying to establish the
  41. FilterTop filter format as an open standard, so that all 
  42. developers will be able to make use of FilterTop filters
  43. in their applications.  These filters are similar to the
  44. idea behind XTND, but much more flexible, and can run 
  45. concurrently via threads in the FilterTop environment :-)
  46.  
  47. We're anxious to release FilterTop 1.0, with LOTS of 
  48. filters, and are very eager to find other programmers
  49. who would like to take on the challenge of a complex 
  50. project, and help us put out a great piece of software
  51. available freely to all Mac users.
