- The new academic release of Isis is (finally) available. We apologize for
- the delays in getting the latest version of this out. All those who
- requested V2.2.6 and V2.2.7 should be receiving their tapes in the next
- week. The academic release is available to educational institutions only---
- degree granting institutions that teach students. E.g. for teaching a
- course on distributed programming. The cost is $US 500 for a LAN license,
- and upgrades cost $50 each. (This is a huge saving over the equivalent
- commercial prices for Isis, and includes the Distributed Resource Manager
- and Isis News.)
-
- The academic release has changed in format and now includes one
- machine independent tar file and 6 machine dependent tar files on the same
- tape. This avoids the need for huge amounts of disk space to read the whole
- tape if you just need binaries for one system. The machines supported are:
-
- SUN4: Sun4 running SunOS.
- SUN3: Sun3 running SunOS.
- HPUX: HP9000 series 700 (snakes) running HP-UX.
- AIXRS: IBM RISC-System/6000 running AIX.
- MIPS: DECStation running Ultrix.
- NEXT: NextStation running Next/Mach.
