  14. The new academic release of Isis is (finally) available. We apologize for
  15. the delays in getting the latest version of this out. All those who
  16. requested V2.2.6 and V2.2.7 should be receiving their tapes in the next
  17. week. The academic release is available to educational institutions only---
  18. degree granting institutions that teach students. E.g. for teaching a
  19. course on distributed programming. The cost is $US 500 for a LAN license,
  20. and upgrades cost $50 each. (This is a huge saving over the equivalent
  21. commercial prices for Isis, and includes the Distributed Resource Manager
  22. and Isis News.)

  24. The academic release has changed in format and now includes one
  25. machine independent tar file and 6 machine dependent tar files on the same
  26. tape. This avoids the need for huge amounts of disk space to read the whole
  27. tape if you just need binaries for one system. The machines supported are:

  29.   SUN4:  Sun4 running SunOS.
  30.   SUN3:  Sun3 running SunOS.
  31.   HPUX:  HP9000 series 700 (snakes) running HP-UX.
  32.   AIXRS: IBM RISC-System/6000 running AIX.
  33.   MIPS:  DECStation running Ultrix. 
  34.   NEXT:  NextStation running Next/Mach.
