- -> I have a couple of questions regarding the IBM PS/2 Model 77.
- ->
- -> I am under the assumption this computer has a standard Overdrive
- -> socket. Is this true? Can the end-user perform the upgrade?
-
- Having to use Lotus Agenda on an XT finally broke down the
- last vestiges of my resolve so, as of a week ago, I've become
- the proud owner of a new PS/2 model 77. It's a _lot_ faster
- than my XT <g>. I still don't know the answers to all your
- questions about it. I've been too busy to using it to read
- all the stuff IBM gives you with it. (My personal favourite -
- the page that's taped to the outside of the computer cautioning
- you to carefully read the licencing agreement before using
- the computer. I went for "option B", madly ripping away the
- packing material and plugging in every cable I could find,
- then powering up without worrying about silly things like
- licencing agreements <g>).
-
- Re Overdrive sockets. The 486SX models have one. According
- to my "installing options" book (one of 5 or so little books
- they give you with a PS/2) it has an Overdrive socket, and since
- they say the term is a trademark of Intel corporation, I can only
- assume it complies with the Intel standard. It doesn't specifically
- say that the user can't install a DX2 processor himself, but it
- says your IBM authorized dealer or service rep can help you install
- one. I take that to mean they'd really prefer that you didn't
- install it yourself.
-
- -> Regardless, I want to know if the Overdrive socket has an "extra" row
- -> of sockets to accomodate future processors.
-
- I haven't opened up the computer since buying it, but judging
- from the diagram in the "installing options" book, it looks
- like there's just the one socket (for the 486DX2-66).
-
- I don't know the answers to your other questions.
