  26. Believe it.  Just because it has a SCSI interface does not mean that
  27. the physical device is fast.  Lots of CD-ROMs are SCSI.  Does that
  28. mean that they are fast?  No.

  30. A floptical uses floppy disk technology, which means direct contact
  31. between the media and the read-write head.  It only uses the optical
  32. track for aliagnment precision.

  34. Direct contact means that the disk cannot rotate at the high speeds
  35. of Winchestor or Bernoulli technology drives.  The friction would
  36. destroy the media at those speeds.

  38. So you see, it is the physical design of the drive mechanism that
  39. determines the maximum speed at which it can operate.  The interface
  40. can restrict this speed, but it cannot give you faster access than
