- Since I purchase 2.0 on 10/25 I immediately called their BBS to see if
- I qualified for a free upgrade. The free upgrade window is 10/26 ->
- 11/30. I missed it by a day. What a bummer. I am not even using the
- 2.0 version because the first time I tried to stack an existing disk
- it destroyed all my info. The second time on my newlly formatted hard
- disk the stacked partition upset chkdsk very much. I think the
- problem was with QEMM386. They say they support it and everything,
- but I quit using QEMM and my third attempt to create a stacked
- partition was successful. Unfortunately, after I loaded a 80 MB
- stacked partition with a lot of my data (compiler, games, mathmatica)
- I only got a 1.3 compression ratio and it wasn't worth the trouble.
-
- The new version supposedly improves the stack compression by 10%,
- speeds up the disk optimizer, lets you choose between space or speed
- for optimization preferences, supplies easier installation tools,
- windows stackometer, password protection, stackable floppies, compress
- larger drives and enhanced transparency.
-
- We use stacker on a few of the laptops at work my problem was the
- first anyone of use had ever heard of. I decided that it was just not
- worth the trouble though. I like my 607K of conventional memory.
