- Speaking of which...Stacker is now installed on my system, where it
- yielded an overall compression of about 1.2:1. About 100 megs of the
- drive's contents are made of ZIPs (1.1:1), ARJs (1:1), GIFs (1:1),
- JPGs (1:1), and BXYs (1.1:1--BXY is an Apple II archive format based
- on LZW). SQD files (Squish data) for my BBS's message areas packed by
- about 2:1. EXEs went to about 1.5:1. Some filetypes packed by up to
- 16:1. I've taken a bit of a speed hit, but that would be expected on
- a 286-12, don't'cha think? :-) I'm gonna try reinstalling Super
- PC-Kwik and see if that gets speed back up to snuff...and if it means
- I have to kill SRE (Solar Realms Elite, a doorgame), then so be it.

-
- So far as I know, Stacker doesn't have built-in JPEG compression. I
- wouldn't have much use for it even if it was built-in; most files on
- my hard drive are compressed by other means to save download time.
-
- I thought it was interesting that ZIP files could be further packed.
- Most of the ZIPs on my system are sampled sounds and MODs...files that
- aren't easily packed to begin with. Then again, PKZIP isn't exactly
- the best file packer in the world...it's only the most common.
