- No guarantee any of these firms are doing well in future, either!
- Commentary in press seems to indicate Dell, Compaq are well established,
- but even IBM is suffering. Gateway is not publicly held.

- Most gloomy prospect is that the sales of pc's will not "come back".
- In such a case, obviously, smaller companies and "3rd tier" companies
- such as Gateway and Zeos will face a crisis. Cf. Northgate and Everex
- where Northgate, with arguably the better product was unable to avoid
- Chapter 11, but, were of sufficient promise to continue in business,
- while Everex found it impossible to find a niche.
-
- If sales increase during a economic recovery, then crisis may be averted.
- The role of IBM is interesting since it is unproven that IBM can
- function in a direct sales market. For that matter what is lead time
- on a Value Point right now?
-
- For Zeos the issue is confused by their decision to introduce a product before
- it could be shipped. Their losses recently seem "normal" given a slow
- economy, bad timing on expansion plans, and the price wars. I would frame
- the question in terms of which scenerio is more likely. IF the market
- returns, and IF their product proves itself, they remain a player.
-
- I am curious to see whether the bleeding has stopped, and will look closely
- at financial statements and a crystal ball to form an opinion.
