- I have a 486/50 eisa with two disk controllers in it. The primary is a
- DTC 2290 EISA IDE controller running my 240 meg seagate, and the secondary
- is a Future Domain TMC-830 running a Rodime 100meg. My problem (if you
- can call it a problem) is somewhat nitpicky, so bear with me :)
-
- My machine used to boot up fairly quickly, with no real delays, and I
- appreciated that. Ever since I added the TMC830, however, it has really
- slowed down the boot process. The machine powers up, checks the ram, says
- hello to the floppies, and then I get a Future Domain BIOS message which stays
- on the screen for about 10 seconds. THEN, the future domain bios prints a
- message identifying my Rodime drive, which sits on the screen for another 10
- seconds or so. Finally, the boot process continues and up comes my OS/2
- boot manager from where I can select DOS or OS/2.
-
- I want to get rid of this 20 second delay, it is somewhat annoying. When
- I first added the TMC830, I was under the impression that I did not
- need the BIOS since it was to be a secondary controller with only one SCSI
- device. I thought I could remove the BIOS chip and it would work fine.
- So I tried it that way...but my machine wouldn't boot this way. It hung
- around the time it now shows the Future Domain messages. So I reinstalled
- the BIOS, and everything works fine, except for the annoying 20s delay.
- Is there anything I can do to speed it up?
-
- Thanks for the help...
