  19. There are a number of performance increasing things you can do, and none
  20. of them relate specifically to that drive.  I recommend you do not mess
  21. with it if it works.  You should go ahead and make BIOS changes to use
  22. shadow RAM, set up PC-KWIK or N-CACHE to provide disk caching that is
  23. software based, etc.  The drive type 17 is the recommended drive type
  24. for all Conner ~40Mb drives.  You are asking for trouble if you play with
  25. low-level formats on an IDE drive that *already works*.

  27. You might double-check with FDISK to see if your partition is really
  28. using 100% of the drive.  If not, you can make a new partition to the
  29. larger size (leaving the BIOS parms alone).

  31. Remember that you have a fundamentally *slow* drive -- those Conners
  32. are about 25ms (not *that* slow, but not great by today's standards).
  33. Don't try to make it something it is not.
