- Ok here is my problem. I have a maxtor 7213A that I had problems
- with formatting. Thank you gentlemen for your help in my resolution
- However, new prob developed. I tried to install windows and it gives
- me an error saying that the hard drive is not recognized. Also, I
- transferred the system to the hard drive and and it doens't boot from it
- . ell, what happened was I bought this system used. It worked fine
- when I got it but I changed the amount of memory in the computer.
- When I went to the BIOS to change the allocation I ran the hard disk
- setup utility. Apprently, that was the cause of my problems because
- the BIOS does not know that the drive is IDE or SCSI, or MFM. It just
- formats. Well, I d/L a file called ide_init.zip from the Maxtor bbs. It
- formated my drive perfectly giving me back the drive to its normal specs.
- In fact, Fdisk when I ran it before intializing it said it only had 80 megs.
- After intializing it had 200 megs. The problem is nothing stays on the drive.
- When I was installing Windows it went bonkers on me.
-
- Questions for those experts:
- a) Did I ruin the drive physically by doing what I did?
- b) Should I rund Norton Disk Doctor? Maybe it as something to do
- with the FAT tables?
- c) Could the drive be physically damaged?
- d) How do you set it back?
-
- Your help is most appreciated and replies to my e-mail address would help
- even more. Thanks.
