  15. I have both a Tseng Labs ET4000-based SVGA and a Hercules
  16. Graphics Card clone installed in my machine.  The problem
  17. is, the SVGA appears to insist on handling the monochrome
  18. mode (BIOS mode #7) itself, thus blocking the use of the
  19. existing HGC.  This can be seen as messed up display in
  20. the monochrome mode as garbage appears on both monitors
  21. due to the fact that the cards are competing over the same
  22. turf.  The HGC is configured to HALF mode, i.e. it doesn't
  23. use the upper 32K of its address space - otherwise it would
  24. mess up the color text modes on the SVGA.

  26. The documentation for the SVGA says it automatically detects
  27. attempts to use the monochrome modes and switches accordingly.
  28. Fine, but I definitely do not want it to do that when I have
  29. a real HGC hooked to a separate monitor at my disposal.

  31. Now, is there some magic switch I can flip in the SVGA to tell
  32. it NOT to mess with the monochrome mode?  I found an entry
  33. in Ralf Brown's interrupt list that describes a function which
  34. can be used to alter the card/monitor combination info.
  35. I tried it, to no avail.  Also, fiddling with the VMODE (or
  36. was it DMODE) program that came with the SVGA proved futile
  37. at best.  Ideas, anyone?
