- I would like to get a cd-rom drive for a Gateway 486/33 ISA (or possibly for
- an older 386/33, Intel motherboard). I currently have no interest in
- "multimedia" per se; I want access to encyclopedias and atlases, etc.
-
- Gateway is selling a Sony cd-rom drive for about $220. I don't have the
- details, but I believe it is a (ca.) 340 ms drive. Any opinions on this
- system, vs. buying an all-in-one drive+encyclopedia, would be appreciated.
-
- I'm a newcomer to cd-rom, so I'd appreciate any experiences, buying hints,
- etc. -- particularly the "gotchas" you know now, and wish you had known when
- you bought your drive. I know nothing about cd-rom "compatibility" issues, nor
- which drives can read which media. Any experiences concerning IRQ conflicts
- with other drives would also be helpful.
