- I've got two different questions about two different computers.
-
- First, I've got a 286 PC. I have a modem connected to COM1. All the features of
- the modem seem to work, but I don't seem to be able to receive any characters
- sent from the modem. I've tried using Windows Terminal program, Kermit, and
- ProComm Plus. Both Kermit and ProComm Plus function normally, as I can tell
- from the lights on the modem and listening to the modem speaker, but nothing
- is echoed to the screen. Does anyone know what could be causing this?
-
- I just installed a new serial port card. I also have a mouse bus port card
- and an external floppy drive controller. Maybe one of these is interfering
- with the modem communications? But why only the reception of characters?
- Could it be an interrupt problem?
-
-
-
- Second, I've got a 486 PC. When it boots and attempts to load HIMEM.SYS,
- it searches the first floppy disk drive. Because I'm booting from a hard disk,
- there's usually nothing in there, so it hangs for quite a while. Any
- ideas how to fix this?
-
- Thanks.
