- Join the Ultrasound mailing list. There are plenty of people who are
- proud Ultrasound owners in there, from Canada to Australia. And by
- joining the list, you have all sorts of knowledgeable people answering
- your question including Gravis themselves. There is a mailserver and a
- ftp site which contains our archive of files with everything from info
- text files/announcements to software, demos....etc. And fixes/patches
- will also be available there as Gravis release them. Here is the info...

- Greetings!
-
- There's been a lot of talk lately about the Gravis Ultrasound,
- as well as the mailing list for it. I thought I'd put in my two cents
- worth on the topic, as I happen to know a little about the mailing
- list... I'm the administrator. :)
-
- First and foremost, as of about 6 hours ago, the mailing list
- stopped being a mailing list and became a digest. This is a
- compilation of messages that is mailed out once a day, 2am MST. I
- know there are some people out there who won't like this, but I really
- had no choice. Readership just reached 300, and the problems of
- maintaing a reflector kept getting worse and worse. There were also
- complaints about the volume of messages that were going out, so
- putting them all into one message may help these problems. I can
- always alter the frequency of a digest being sent out depending on the
- volume of mail we get with this new format.
-
- Also new is that Advanced Gravis Corp. is one of the
- subscribers to the digest. That means any problems that are found and
- posted to the digest will be in the hands of the engineers at Gravis
- very quickly.
-
- The digest is complemented by a mail request server.
- Currently, there's not a lot on the server. However, a FAQ is being
- made up to go there. Also, as soon as I get a little time, I'll put
- up several different reviews of the card, a hardware description as
- grokked by one of the digest readers, the Big List O' Games and how
- they interact with the Ultrasound as soon as it is released, and
- anything else I can find.
-
- We're also negotiating to get some space on an FTP site so you
- don't have to use the mail server. Also on the FTP site will be
- programs and data submitted by users. Gravis has also planned to open
- a BBS, and one of the members of the digest has volunteered to
- download anything they put up there, and copy it over to our FTP site.
-
- If you're even just THINKING about getting an Ultrasound, I'd
- suggest joining the digest. You can ask questions if you've got
- trouble, you can get the latest info on the card and daughterboards,
- find the best in PD software for it, etc., etc.
-
- To join, mail to the request server. It will help you get
- signed up. This is also the address for accessing the mailserver.
- Just send mail to:
-
- ultrasound-request@dsd.es.com
-
- To post a message onto the digest, mail to:
-
- ultrasound@dsd.es.com
-
- If you have trouble with the server, feel free to mail to:
-
- ultrasound-owner@dsd.es.com
-
- This will put you in touch with a real human. If you can't
- mail to that, just mail me directly and we'll figure something out.
- The server isn't perfect, though, and I'd really appreciate it if
- you'd let me know what goes wrong with it if you try to use it and it
- croaks.
-
- Thanks for your time!
-
- Note:
-
- The FTP site is now available, epas.utoronto.ca.
- Look for the directory pub/pc/ultrasound.
