- There are plenty of ways to reformat an IDE drive safely. In the case of
- the Maxtor drive which touched off this thread, my suggestion would be to
- call Maxtor. They will cheerfully supply you with their bbs number, where
- you can download a program to test and format the exact Maxtor model you
- have.

- I did this with a messed up Maxtor LXT200A I had and it worked out to be a
- fast and safe solution. the drive is happily supporting a Netware server
- now.

- Not that many IDE drives CAN be safely formatted with any format utility.
- I had problems with a Conner drive, and they told me to go ahead and low
- level it any way I wanted to. They stated that Connor IDE drives DON'T
- have the problem of not being able to be formatted in the field.
