- You'll need the new B.04 software release for the HP 700/RX. For Series 800
- hosts, the product number is C2724A, with various media option codes. There are
- actually two variants of local VUE workspace managers supplied with the X
- station software (as well as local 'mwm' and 'twm'). The "bells and whistles"
- version, called FrontEnd VUE, requires that HP VUE 3.0 is installed on the
- host machine (I'm not sure if VUE 3.0 comes standard with HP-UX 9.0 for an 857).
- The other version, called VUE/RX, does not need VUE to be installed on the host.
-
- BTW, to run local window managers and terminal emulators you may need to add
- more memory to your X terminals. Unless your host is very heavily loaded (and
- an 857 is hardly underpowered :-)), there may not be any great advantage to
- using local clients. Basically it is a trade-off between using RAM and CPU
- power on the host or on the terminals.
-
- Incidently, the X terminal software package "bits" are the same for both Series
- 700 and Series 800 hosts and the software is supported for HP-UX 7.0 and up.
-
- Hope this helps!
