- It's probably not a bug but simply a result of the restrictions
- imposed on the X terminal in reading its fonts. The error
- message you quoted is produced when the X server cannot read
- the fonts.dir file in a newly added font directory (among other
- times).
-
- The 700/RX (I assume you have an RX although most of this
- explaination applies equally to other X terminals on the market)
- can access its fonts using tftp or nfs (or in B.03 through a 'font
- server'). It also uses this mechanism to read the fonts.dir
- and fonts.alias files. You can determine what method you are using
- looking on the config screens (hold down F12 for longer then 2 seconds)
- go to the Network screen (click on the button on the top of the
- config window) and checking the button beside the file
- server address.
-
- If you are using tftp it is probably 'secure' meaning that it will
- only allow access to files under /usr/tftpdir (and it uses paths
- which on't include /usr/tftpdir eg. to access /usr/tftpdir/usr/lib/X11
- specify simply /usr/lib/X11 -- the tftp daemon prepends /usr/tftpdir)
- This means that you can't get at files under /admin/ using tftp. These
- files must be copied under /usr/tftpdir/ (eg. copy the fonts and
- fonts.dir|alias files into /usr/tftpdir/admin/??? and then retry the
- xset on the X terminal)
-
- If you are using nfs then you probbly haven't exported the filesystem
- for /admin/ to the X terminal. Try doing that and then retry the xset.
-
- There are more details on this and other font related topics
- in the 700/RX sys admin manual.
-
- Hope that helps,
