  23. Not eeeeeeven.  Obviously that's true about shared folders, but your
  24. statement about aliases certainly isn't.  I have zillions of aliases on
  25. my desktop, even an alias of a folder to aliases to other stuff (so I don't
  26. have to clutter the desktop enough).  This type of thing is very common
  27. because the Mac literally MOVES your applications when you put them on the
  28. desktop so it can't find its data files. I have aliases in the Apple menu too.

  30. Aliases ARE useful for network things (I sure wish the damn things could
  31. remember your password for servers though), but that's certainly not only
  32. when they're useful.

  34. To bring the GS in the picture, I think aliases would be useful on the GS too
  35. for *similar* reasons.  Even though the GS doesn't actually move files when
  36. you put them on a desktop, I'd probably put aliases on the desktop instead of
  37. the actual files, so if I do happen to open up the folder where a desktop
  38. file 'lives', I will actually see it in the window, and the alias will be on
  39. the desktop.

  41. yeah this is going to be formatted all crappily. I've set the auto wrap width
  42. in the 
  43. program I post with, it still screws up the messages.
