- I've run into an annoying problem with PC-NFS 4.0a when I use it with
- Windows.
-
- I was using PC-NFS 3.5c with Windows 3.1 and everything ran fine.
- Then I decided it was time to upgrade to version 4.0a. Windows didn't
- like that very much. After I had upgraded (and told the install program
- that I was gonna use PC-NFS with Windows), Windows reported that LPT2,
- LPT3 and COM1 were not present on my computer. When I tried to print
- on a network printer via LPT2 or LPT3, I got the message:
-
- LPT3 is not present on your computer. Choose the Printers
- option in Control Panel or the Printer Setup command in Print
- Manager to assign an installed port to you (sic) printer.
-
- "Okay, let's change to LPT1." (Some windows moved, buttons clicked).
- "Hey, what do you know. A new message":
-
- The printer on LPT1 is out of paper or is not connected to your
- computer. Check the printer cable or network connection to make
- sure the printer is connected, or refresh the paper supply.
- Then resume the print queue.
-
- Plenty of paper in the paper tray and all the cables securely connected.
- No problem with printing when doing it from DOS. So, I installed PC-NFS
- 3.5c again. Now Windows reported LPT1, LPT2, LPT3 and COM1 missing.
- But I could still print. On all ports.
-
- Then I tried re-installing 4.0a but this time told the install program
- that I was not gonna use it with Windows. But that didn't change
- anything. I still got the two error messages when I tried to print.
-
- My mouse is installed on COM1 and works with both 3.5c and 4.0a.
- Currently, I'm using 3.5c and everything is running smoothly...just a
- moment...just a moment...
-
- Does anybody know what's going on? Am I doing something wrong? Is 4.0a
- bugged? Should I find the phone number of the local Netware
- distributor?
-
- Thanks in advance,
