- I just downloaded the new ATI drivers from the ATI BBS. I am hesitating
- on installing them because I'm fairly happy with my system the way it
- is now, and I don't want disturb any s*** by installing a new video driver.
- I have noticed a marked decrease in graphics speed since I installed the
- CSD. I was told that the 8514 driver is still 16 bits and because the
- 32 bit GRE needs to go through a Thunk layer, the slowdown is expected. This
- I don't like. However, I like the features of the standard 8514 driver.
-
- I am interested in anyones opinion of these new drivers from ATI. In particular
- the following issues are important to me:
-
- 1. Are the same fonts available for OS/2 and DOS windowed (text based)
- applications?
-
- 2. I am currently running 1024X768, 256 colors. Is this available?
-
- 3. Does the driver _noticeably_ improve the video performance on a
- system with the CSD installed? Note: the ATI drivers are 16 bit.
-
- 4. To install these drivers, you must do a selective install to set the
- video mode to VGA before installing the driver. I have installed the
- CSD. Will such a selective install replace any CSD level files with
- the original GA level files ?
-
- I am using an ATI Graphics Ultra on a 33Mhz 486 EISA system. Any info would
- be appreciated.
