- I'm having the same problems, but I've also noticed that when utmp is
- messed up, neither reboot or shutdown function properly.
-
- Basically, I enter the "reboot" or "shutdown -r now" commands, I get
- asked "Why?", enter that, then nothing happens. I've only let it go for a
- couple of minutes, but the system does not shutdown.
-
- If I rm and then touch /etc/utmp, everything works fine again.
-
- Any clues?
