- I installed linux for the first time on my 386/25. i have 2 partitions on my
- D: drive (Maxtor 213meg) ~10 meg on /dev/hdb1 and ~60 meg on /dev/hdb2. the
- rest of the drive unpartitioned. i have / on hdb1 and /usr on hdb2.
- i have no swap partition or file but i have 10meg of memory. all the things
- i have tried worked ok except for X. I installed X using sysinstall
- without complaints (after some initial small fights). then I copied X386mono
- to X386 and Xconfig.mono to Xconfig. I did startx and apparently it was trying
- to do it in VGA256 mode; it didn't like it. I then saw /usr/X386/bin/X was
- not symlinked to X386, so I did 'ln -s X386 X' (should I?). then I did startx
- again. Up came the white screen and a cursor (I was so excited!). then the
- white background went away. My screen then looked like this (dark background)
- and hanged. any clues?
