  16. I'm installing the latest SLS from TSX-11 and I'm having a few problems...

  20. CompuAdd 325sc (386sx/25 - 32K cache)
  21. 5M ram
  22. C&T SVGA on motherboard, 512K ram
  23. 81M IDE disk, partitioned 11M DOS, 29M Linux /, 29M Linux /usr, 12M swap

  25. First of all (and this is prolly a FAQ), when I get the 'Press <return>
  26. to see SVGA modes', I press return and it goes into 80x50 mode straight
  27. away.  This is annoying;  I want 132x44 mode!  Is there a simple fix for
  28. this in the kernel source (because I'm sure to be rebuilding it anyway)..?

  30. Secondly, I have a 2-port serial card which is set up as COM3/4.  However,
  31. I'm not using shared IRQs;  instead I'm using IRQ5 for COM3 and IRQ7 for
  32. COM4 (I don't have any parallel ports installed).  On boot-up, Linux says
  33. that COM3 & 4 are on IRQ4 & 3 respectively - so I'm assuming that this is
  34. hard-coded into the kernel sources.  Is this correct, and is it easy to
  35. change the IRQ settings in the source code?

  37. Finally, I think I've got a bad a3 disk, because I keep getting FS errors
  38. when the install script tries to read it.  But even so, I don't think I
  39. should be getting the problem I'm suffering from, which is as follows:
  40. when I try to boot from floppy with hda2 as root, the initialisation seems
  41. to go OK until the kernel is read from the HD.  At this point, the screen
  42. fills up with 'child xxx died' ad infinitum, with xxx incrementing each time.
  43. Is this a symptom of my bad a3 disk, or something more sinister....?
