  11. I've just pulled off of the tsx-11 system (four days ago) the SLS distribution
  12. files.  I got a few questions concerning both the disks themselves, along
  13. with general install stuff...
  14.  
  15. first the hardware I'm trying to install to:

  17. Tandy 4800HD laptop (486sx) with:
  18.       4 mb ram
  19.       LCD VGA display/external 800x600x16 support
  20.       1.44 mb floppy
  21.       have a Thumbolina mouse, along with VIVA 2400/9600 Fax pocket modem
  22.  
  23. now the questions:
  24.  
  25. 1) I've noticed when I went to copy the files to 3-1/2" distribution, that
  26.    there are some .Z files (ex. - file.ext.Z), which don't map cleanly over
  27.    to a normal dos name.  Am I just supposed to uncompress these before making
  28.    the 3-1/2" distribution?

  30. 2) when loading up two of the xwindow distribution disks, i saw the following
  31.    errors:

  33.    x1 -  installing xbina...:file exists
  34.          tar : could not create symlink to /usr/X386/bindone
  35.  
  36.    x4 -  installing x75dpi...floppy: Over/Underrun - retrying
  37.  
  38.    Are these two disks bad?  should I make two new copies?

  40. 3) How much room is needed to load up the system with X11 and the i1/i2 disks,
  41.    along with the t1/t2/t3/t4/t5 disks?  obviously 50 mb in one partition 
  42.    won't cut it...

  44. 4) on the install of the i-series and t-series disks, I got a 
  45.    magic match failed message popping up on the screen, before asking
  46.    if I wanted to install a file.  is this a warning or error that has
  47.    some meaning?

  49. 5) I've also noticed on doing the additional software install, that if
  50.    a screw-up occurs on answering the questions, the floppy drive becomes
  51.    inactive (i have to reboot to re-activate it).  any comments?

  53. 6) I've also noticed some strange stuff when running either 'halt' or 
  54.    shutdown commands; graphics show up with shutdown and some weird
  55.    stuff happens with the text with halt.
  56.  
  57. Overall, can anyone tell me what all the changes are from this distribution
  58. to the latest is that are "for the better"?
