- I have a problem with Ultrix 4.2 sendmail. sendmail (with UMC) acts as a
- gateway to the VMS A1MAIL system. My mail hub (which runs MMDF) passes
- messages to the Ultrix box far more quickly than the Ultrix box can forward
- them to VMS. This results in a large number of concurrent delivery
- processes running which leads to the machine running out of swap space or
- file table entries. This leads to bounced or lost mail and much wailing and
- gnashing of teeth.
-
- I have tried reducing Ox to 2, but this has no effect because the load
- average remains low (the processes are not runnable - they are just waiting
- for the VMS box to respond).
-
- Can anyone suggest a solution other than queueing all mail and running
- sendmail over the queue every few minutes. Neil.
