  13. As I've heard the explanation, a primary motivation for 64 bits is to
  14. allow for _REALLY_ big virtual address spaces for processes that need
  15. to access oceans of data.  Really gonzo database applications might
  16. want to memory-map humongous database files.  A 64-bit address
  17. space ought to be able to satisfy that kind of requirement for the
  18. forseeable future (given the fogginess of MY crystal ball, the forseeable
  19. future can't be too far way, though  8-).
