  12. CINEPLEX ODEON Corporation of Toronto Canada is currently engaged in
  13. attempting to destroy over 300 families in the Chicagoland area.  Members
  14. of the Motion Picture Projectionists Union Local 110 of Chicago have been
  15. locked out of their jobs as of November 8th, 1992, at midnight.

  17. CINEPLEX ODEON seems to have written the book on how to alter their
  18. mismanaged bottom line on the backs of the working people in the
  19. Chicagoland area.

  21. The whole thing goes something like this.....
  22. Automated equipment was installed, in anticipation of a lockout, over a
  23. period of one month in all major outlets in the chain.  The locks were
  24. changed at the theatres one week before contract negotiations were to
  25. begin.  At the first negotiation session they made an offer that would cut
  26. our membership by 75% and cut the wage & benefit package for those
  27. remaining by 85%. Yes, you heard it correctly, 85%!  They offered no
  28. negotiation until we voted on that offer. It was rejected by secret ballot
  29. of 239 to 1. We were locked out three days later. Pamphlets explaining why
  30. we were locked out were already printed by CINEPLEX ODEON before we voted
  31. and wildly inflated hourly wage claims were leaked to the press.

  33. In response to this letter you may hear that we have too many men and we
  34. make too much money.  The purpose of this article is not to talk about
  35. those allegations.  It's about negotiation.  At our last contract talks we
  36. gave back 30% in cuts.  We knew going in that we'd have to give back some
  37. more and talk about personnel reductions.  We never got the chance!

  39. Oh, about that book I alluded to earlier?  Funny, it  has no author.  No
  40. one wants to admit to having written it.  It's just too dirty.
