- Forgive me for hopping on your posting as an excuse to
- post a story about a good deed done ....
-
- My 1989 Mazda 929 ( Toyo Kogyo is 1/3 owned by Ford -- ed.)
- started knocking. A lot. Like the lifters were going to
- hurl, and like the valves were earnestly trying to pound
- the cylinder heads into a puddle of metal.
-
- I called up Roger Beasley Mazda, and ask for the Service Desk.
- Presenting myself in a suitably prone position (over the phone),
- I proceeded to tell the Service Dude my tale of woe. He immediately
- suggests that I change the oil filter. He suspects that the
- engine isn't getting enough oil, because the check-off valve
- ("huh?", I asked) is probably jammed.
-
- I change the oil filter, putting in the finest dinosaur remnants
- possible (Castrol), and guess what? HE WAS RIGHT!
-
- He could have had me bring the Beast of Burden in for a
- jillion dollar valve-ring-lifter job, and I wouldn't have been
- the wiser. But he didn't. Instead, he solved the problem,
- over the phone, for free.
-
- I don't know his name, but Roger Beasley Mazda now has one
- happy (future) customer. The Unknown Service Dude did a good
- deed. And the Beast of Burden lives for yet another day ....
-
- There is hope in this world after all.
