- >If Jennifer believes that she is being harassed, then that treatment *is*
- >harassment.
-
- See, this statement is what bothers me about this whole harrasment argument.
- Mind you I do not condone, or approve of the posts/email that has been sent
- to Jenniifer, and she has every right to ask for them to stop. I also hope
- that the lameoid that posted them gets heat for being a twit. However, the
- above statement goes too far. An Example:
-
- Lets say that I met Jennifer in the lobby of a building every morning as we
- went about our business. Lets say that I found her attractive and wanted to
- make my presence known, so every day I would walk up to her and say "good
- morning, how are you today", and every morning I would be ignored. Now,
- unknown to me the daily greeting is very annoying to Jennifer and after
- a period she comes to feel that I am harrasing her. Well then I guess by your
- definition it's true and I should be flogged in public.
-
- This is not an exaggerated scenario, I the environment in which I work it
- is taken to this extreme! I know a person who was repremanded for telling
- a woman that she had on a "very nice dress". He was told that comments of
- this personal nature were inappropriate to the workplace and could be
- deemed harrasment! The fellow I know made 1 comment to the woman (not
- repeated as in my example), and had no intentions other than to be polite.
-
- As others have stated, lets not diminish the importance of the very real
- sexual harrasment issue by making it's definition so broad. Jenifer did
- the correct thing she asked for the crap to STOP! If it does'nt then further
- action should be taken, but lets not run to extremes right off the bat.
