- (calling about a thousand unspecified popular books 'trash')
-
- Ummm ... I notice that last reply of mine came out a little crankier that I
- intended when it popped up from my server. Sorry about that. Pet peeve
- I reckon. I just wanted to share some good references on the left/right
- brain topic.
-
- Also, I forgot to mention any of the stuff by Nobel Laureate Roger Sperry
- on the topic. His speculations are probably what led to the popular explosion
- of literature about separate left and right brain personalities and such.
-
- On the question that was asked when the topic was started, some very good
- books on mental gymnastics (creative, logical, and otherwise) and such include :
-
- The Possible Human, Jean Houston
-
- ---> largely what you left brain/right brain
- fans would call 'right brain' exercises,
- involving visualization, body sense,
- and such.
-
- Smart for Life, Mark Chafetz
-
- ---> much more 'analytical' in style, if not content.
- Breakdown of drills by categories of mental function.
- Some simple neurological explanations, importance of
- nutrition and relation to brain chemistry is touched
- on, and so on.
-
- Brain Power, Karl Albrecht
-
- ---> I mainly just like his style. His term 'crap detecting'
- as a fundamental thinking skill is very refreshing
- for a self help type book. A brief course in
- critical thinking skills.
-
- kind regards,
