- There's a short but interesting piece called "Belief - A Key to Magick" by
- British pagan Phil Hine (former editor of the UK _Pagan News_ on the issue
- of whether magick based on mythic systems "known" to be "fictitious" is
- valid. He argues that *any* system in which one invests intensity of
- belief, even in a "suspension of disbelief" mode, will produce valid
- magickal results. He specifically mentions working with systems based on
- the Great Old Ones of Cthulhu, and also mentions systems he and friends have
- worked out using Mythic systems derived from Star Trek and C.S. Lewis's
- Narnia series. ("Tash is gonna *get* you if you don't ... watch ...
- out.")
-
- His point, as I understand it, is that belief in the mythic *efficacy* of a
- god or entity is quite different from belief that that entity ever existed
- independent of a human's mind. If rituals based on such a Mythic system
- produce the changes in accordance to will, then they work, and their
- premises are valid. Period. Try it and find out.

- The article is in a neat little magazine called _The Wild Places,_ ed.

- issues $5. The Hine piece is in No. 3.
