  12. I am wondering if the law prohibiting marriage between Native Americans in
  13. North Carolina is being confused with a law from the slave-owning states
  14. which forbade African slaves to marry.

  16. I don't know off hand, but there may be an old law still on the books which
  17. may forbid Native Americans to marry but which is not enforced.  There is a
  18. of unenforced laws still around... many of them are pretty silly (forbidding
  19. shelling of peanuts on Sunday, for example).  Does anyone know if there have
  20. been any attempts to enforce such a law in North Carolina?  The gentleman from
  21. Chapel Hill might check the state law books.
