  14. It is a well-known phenomenon in some hypnosis communities that people
  15. who are asleep respond to hypnotic suggestion, with results similar to
  16. suggestions made in a "typical" awake volunteer.  It does take a little
  17. longer, though.  This also applies to surgical anesthesia - there are
  18. numerous cases where a comment made in passing by a nurse or doctor has
  19. been taken as a powerful suggestion by the "unconscious and unaware"
  20. patient.  This little tidbit of information has (happily) not caused
  21. mass paranoia, but (sadly) has neither caused any incredible moral
  22. debates.
