  14. I happened to be across the room when my wife asked...

  18. After I stopped reflexively cringing, imagining those Nice Men from "We
  19. Work For The Government" coming for a visit, I wandered over to the
  20. terminal...  Turns out that .mil (MilNet, for the domain-impaired) was
  21. stuck on the end of a UseNet posting...  Here, of all places.

  23. Gee, must be awfully important...  a milnet site posting to usenet...

  25. Then I saw the sender.   Nope, can't be important.

  27. Then I read it (slow night 'round the homestead), and it sounds as if our
  28. little old friendly milnet site has been not just posting wildly to usenet,
  29. but also logging some pretty intensive time telnetted to csd.bu.edu...
  30. (Mentally computes how far away a site has to be to get a 700 mS ping time)

  35. Good to know that tax money we (or at least those of us enough in the real
  36. world to be paying taxes - and worrying how to pay taxes...) spend for
  37. Internet research...  spend to make sure the US keeps leading the research
  38. effort into (horrors!) useful uses for technology is going to exactly where
  39. it was meant to...
