I agree that a V8 will have more torque, be easier to get the max of
everything, etc. The problem is that a *small* V8 of the sixties compacts
will usually get classed with the *big* V8s. Then I'm back in the same boat!
>From what I have read, the Ford sixes are pretty weak. But I once owned a
'68 Rambler American and was always impressed with its low-end torque. I
believe that engine is still in use in the Jeep Cherokees. Fuel-injected, too.
Corvairs have been suggested, and I like that possibility.
Vintage competition varies with the sanctioning body. Vintage sportscar
racing usually strictly adheres to period mods. Vintage drag racing, on the
other hand, is often an old shell around the latest technology. Vintage rally
goes both ways.
What need to do before I spend any money, is get the rule books from the varioussanctioning groups and see where I could fit in. Also, my goal is some fun and
excitement rather than winning at all costs, so that's a factor. Plus, I have
always liked "odd-rods" just cuz they're different.
