-
- Someone's pulling your leg. According to David Vizard's dyno tests a
- few years back, it's damned hard to beat the stock Chevy dual-plane
- spreadbore intake up to 5000 RPM. Fuel distribution is just fine,
- typical of dual plane intakes. It's the single-plane jobbies that have
- troubles.
-
- I seriously doubt an adjustable fuel pressure regulator is going to do
- anything useful unless the carburetor isn't functioning properly to
- begin with.
-
- Checking the power valve and changing the jets were reasonable
- troubleshooting steps, but you didn't mention which type of carb you
- were running. If you're using one of the new-style Holleys with the
- plastic fuel valve seat assemblies, they're notoriously prone to
- sticking in the open position and drowning the motor. I don't know of
- any sure fix other than swapping to a set of old-style float bowls.
- The new-style Holleys also lack the center idle adjust screw under the
- air cleaner stud, which can make idle setup a pain.
-
- Finally, the ZZ1 cam is 235/235 degrees, and that's enough to hurt fuel
- economy dramatically unless you have the carb dead-on. 15 inches of
- vacuum looks just fine, though, unless you have very tall gears and lug
- the engine a lot.
