- >Who did you march with and when??
-
- Belleville Black Knights 1977-1982
- Suncoast Sound 1985

-
- I would imagine you did, CoA has some wonderful music. Which section
- did you march in?
-
- While I was at Suncoast, we read a *lot* of old music. (We even
- memorized the 1983 version of Greatest Love of All.) I enjoyed playing
- though that music, but I didn't want to go public with it. I've always
- felt that if you don't have the time to do something right, maybe you
- don't need to be doing it. The last time that chart was played,
- Suncoast placed 6th with it. Having us hack our way through it would
- detract from that, IMHO.
-
- Of course, having the chart for an entire summer would allow you to
- improve on the original. But you would *have* to improve on it.
- Rehashing the old music is not enough. (I think this was part of
- Phantom's problem this summer, their 1812 production wasn't all that
- much different than it was in 1983 and 1984.)

- This is excellent, I really feel that this is what drum corps is really
- all about.
-

- >only my opinion but I kind of doubt I'm alone.
-
- I wouldn't be so sure about Madison not placing in the top-5. You can
- never count them out of the running.
-
- Everyone marches for different reasons, just as you march for the
- experience, some march only to win. If shows were won based on
- crowd-appeal alone, then VK and Madison would probably tie for the win
- every year. I like to think there's more to show design than an appeal
- to the crowd. I think shows should be designed first and foremost to
- help the performers have the richest experience possible; secondly,
- try to push the activity in new directions, and thirdly, to go for the
- crowd reaction.
-
- I honestly believe that the average drum corps audience is become more
- sophisticated year by year so that the above design concerns are not as
- mutually exclusive as they once were.

- Indeed.
