- Jack Stamp is a reletively young (35ish) composer, originally from South
- Carolina, I think. I knew him when he was working on a doctorate in
- composition at Michigan State University. Super nice guy, and very talented.
- Evidently Tim Salzman (arranger for Cavies) thinks so, too. I think Jack
- is teaching somewhere down south again at this time.
-
- The bass drum thing was the brainstorm of Jim Campbell, Cavies percussion
- arranger, and is based on the "one handed" Irish drumming style that you
- may have seen done by bands like the Chieftans. They are playing with one
- hand, and all the fugures are based on 12th and 24th notes. (Triplets and
- triplet drags). It's a pretty amazing technique, and they all got very
- proficient at it by the end of the summer. It's kind of like one - handed
- backsticking.
