- Without loss of generality, let's substitute legislator for Senator,
- executive for President, and bring this argument a little closer to home.
-
- Through the gerrymandering of congressional districts, Willie Brown has
- created a legislative "monarchy" of his own, and has become the "poster
- child" for the PRO-Term Limits movement.
-
- Through a vast network of political connections created during countless
- terms in office, Mr. Brown (who had created a "Speaker-for-life" position
- for himself before the people took it away) has built more power for
- himself than any 2-term governor could ever hope to have.
-
- Our founding fathers did not intend for politics to be a career. It was
- meant to be a place where those who enjoyed and benefited from the
- freedoms and liberties of this country could serve the public for a
- LIMITED time, and then return to their private life.
-
- Term limits preserves this idea.
-
- I have doubts about the thought that term limits would weaken a state's
- representation. However, if this is a concern, several have proposed the
- perfect solution: Amend the constitution to limit the terms of all states'
- congressmen/women. All states would then be on equal footing.
